The project in a few words

The Institut Henri Poincaré has produced a documentary on the amazing encounter between Man Ray and the world of mathematics. The film, still available, lasts 70 minutes and retraces the encounters: of Man Ray with mathematical models and mathematical models with Shakespeare. Through the eyes of Man Ray, a wide audience will discover a mysterious facet of mathematics. The film brings together mathematicians, photographers, Man Ray and Shakespeare specialists.

This documentary illustrates the will of the Institut Henri Poincaré to promote research in mathematics and theoretical physics and to reinforce the links between Art and Science. The objective is to allow the camera to reveal the most inaccessible angles of the models. The power of cinema, through the use of lights, projections and movements, will make them familiar to us. In doing so, it is also a tribute to Man Ray, who opened the way by giving them colors, placing them in stagings that are sometimes comical and sometimes frightening. He freed himself from the mathematical weight to make them true icons.
